Computer Animation

I've always liked looking at computer animation, especially the photo-realistic animals in Hocus Pocus, Seafari and Babe.  I've come to the realization that I'd prefer to look at it instead of do it, however.  I'd much rather be drawing than sitting in front of a screen manipulating splines and faces.

But I've always had a knack with computers, and since computer animation is 'in vogue' these days, I'd be throwing away valuable opportunities at school if I didn't learn the basics.  I continue to be interested in computer animation (after all, it's just another tool) and here are the results for your laughing, I mean viewing, pleasure.

College Sophomore Year, 1996
"Delphinidae"

My second year at California Institute of the Arts was the first year students were allowed to dabble in 3d animation.  I've hated working with 3d ever since.  ;)

I've decided to work on this a bit more before I have it up for display.  The Amiga renders are just too painful to look at.  This is a film that I hope to finish someday....maybe in 3d Studio Max or Maya?

After the horrors of trying to do an entire film in cg, I ran away screaming from the hum of processors and took a break for a while.  But eventually the lure of shiny new technologies sang its siren song, and before I knew it I was enrolled in SoftImage class.  I didn't do anything worth mentioning in that class, I doubt you'd want to see my versions of the tutorials.  But I was able to add a second cg program to my resume, which helped my career...

1999
"Voltron"

The folks at Prolific Publishing were kind enough to train me in 3d Studio Max, and in the learning process I modeled and animated...what else?  A giant robot.  But not just any giant robot...it's Voltron!  My favorite blue lion.
